About the Stakeholder Register template
A Stakeholder Register is a living record of everyone with an interest in or influence over your project, capturing who they are, what they need, and how much they can affect outcomes. It underpins your communication and engagement plans, ensuring the right people get the right information at the right time. Without it, expectations go unmanaged and late-stage objections derail otherwise healthy projects.

Tips & common mistakes
- π‘Rate influence and interest separately; a high-interest, low-power stakeholder needs different handling than a disengaged executive sponsor

How is a stakeholder register different from a RACI matrix?οΌ
A stakeholder register records who your stakeholders are and how to engage them, including interest, influence, and attitude. A RACI matrix is narrower, assigning task-level responsibility (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Informed) for specific deliverables.
How often should the stakeholder register be updated?οΌ
Review it at every phase transition or gate review, and whenever a new party joins, a sponsor changes, or someone's influence or attitude shifts. On longer projects a monthly check keeps engagement levels accurate.
Should sensitive information about stakeholder attitudes be shared?οΌ
No. Assessments of a stakeholder's resistance or hidden agenda should stay with the project manager and sponsor; sharing them can damage relationships. Keep a public version with contact and communication details separate from the confidential analysis.
