About the Quality Control template
Quality Control is the set of inspection and testing activities used to verify that deliverables meet defined specifications and acceptance criteria before they reach the customer. Unlike quality assurance, which focuses on preventing defects through process, QC detects defects in the finished output through measurement, sampling, and pass/fail checks. Documenting it keeps inspections consistent, traceable, and defensible when nonconformances arise.

What is the difference between quality control and quality assurance?οΌ
Quality control is reactive and product-focused, catching defects in finished output through inspection and testing. Quality assurance is proactive and process-focused, building in practices that prevent defects from occurring in the first place.
How do I decide sample size for a QC inspection?οΌ
Sample size depends on batch size, risk, and the sampling standard you follow, such as ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 for acceptance sampling. Higher-risk or high-volume items warrant larger samples or 100 percent inspection at critical hold points.
What happens when an item fails inspection?οΌ
Record the nonconformance with its severity and evidence, then assign a disposition such as rework, reject, or use-as-is with approval. Failed items should be quarantined or flagged so they are not passed downstream before resolution.
