About the Kanban Card template

A Kanban Card is the visual unit of work on a Kanban board, representing a single task, user story, or work item as it moves through columns like To Do, In Progress, and Done. Each card carries the details a team needs to pull work, spot blockers, and limit work in progress. Well-structured cards keep flow visible and make bottlenecks obvious at a glance.

It's part of My QMS, MyPMP's Quality Management System: fill it in online, personalize it with your name and logo, then export a clean, branded PDF. Your work auto-saves in your browser.

When to use a Kanban Card

  • β–ΈBreaking a backlog into discrete, pullable work items for a sprint or continuous flow
  • β–ΈTracking a task's status as it moves across board columns
  • β–ΈFlagging blocked or aging items during daily stand-ups
  • β–ΈAssigning ownership and estimating effort for individual pieces of work

Tips & common mistakes

  • πŸ’‘Keep each card to one deliverable that fits within your WIP limits; split anything too large to finish in a few days
  • πŸ’‘Write titles as clear outcomes, not vague verbs, so status is readable without opening the card
  • πŸ’‘Add a blocked indicator and note the reason rather than silently letting cards stall

How it works

  1. 1. Fill it in β€” type directly into the fields, tables and sections above.
  2. 2. Brand it β€” add your organization name and logo with the Branding button.
  3. 3. Export β€” print to PDF, or become a member to white-label and sync across devices.

FAQ

What is a Kanban Card?οΌ‹

It is a single work item on a Kanban board that captures the task's details and moves through columns to show its current status. Cards let a team visualize flow and pull work as capacity allows.

What information should go on a Kanban Card?οΌ‹

At minimum a clear title, an owner, a status/column, and a priority; most teams also add an estimate, labels, due date, and a blocked flag.

How is a Kanban Card different from a user story?οΌ‹

A user story describes a requirement from the user's perspective, while a Kanban Card is the board artifact that tracks it; a card can hold a story, a bug, or any task, and adds workflow data like status and owner.
