A Project Timeline is a chronological map of project phases, milestones, and deliverables plotted against dates so everyone can see what happens when. It turns a scope statement into a sequenced plan, exposing dependencies and deadline conflicts before they derail delivery. Used well, it becomes the shared reference point for status updates, resource decisions, and stakeholder expectations.
It's part of My QMS, MyPMP's Quality Management System: fill it in online, personalize it with your name and logo, then export a clean, branded PDF. Your work auto-saves in your browser.
The interactive form above gives you:
A timeline gives a high-level, date-based view of phases and milestones for communication, while a Gantt chart shows detailed tasks, durations, and dependencies for day-to-day scheduling. Timelines suit stakeholders; Gantt charts suit the delivery team.
Estimate each phase from historical data or team input, sequence tasks according to their dependencies, then add buffer to high-risk activities. Work backwards from any fixed deadline to check the plan is achievable.
Review it at least weekly during active delivery and immediately after any scope change, milestone completion, or schedule slip. A timeline that no longer reflects reality quickly loses credibility with the team and sponsors.
