About the Production Schedule template

A Production Schedule maps out what gets made, in what quantity, on which resources, and by when—turning demand and order commitments into a time-phased plan for the shop floor. It coordinates machines, labor, and materials so production runs meet due dates without overloading capacity or starving downstream stages.

How is a production schedule different from a master production schedule (MPS)?

An MPS sets high-level output targets by product and period, while a production schedule breaks that into specific jobs sequenced on actual work centers with start and finish times. The MPS answers what and how much; the schedule answers when and where.

How do I handle a rush order without breaking the schedule?

Insert it by priority and check the impact on affected work centers, then reschedule or bump lower-priority jobs that have slack. Update material and labor assignments so downstream stages aren't caught short.

How often should a production schedule be updated?

Most operations refresh it daily or per shift to reflect completed jobs, breakdowns, and material arrivals, with a fuller review weekly against the demand plan. Real-time status updates keep it accurate as conditions change.
