An Incident Response Plan is a documented, step-by-step procedure for detecting, containing, and recovering from disruptive events such as security breaches, service outages, or safety incidents. It assigns clear roles, escalation paths, and communication protocols so teams can act quickly under pressure instead of improvising. Having one in place limits damage, shortens recovery time, and satisfies regulatory and audit requirements.
It's part of My QMS, MyPMP's Quality Management System: fill it in online, personalize it with your name and logo, then export a clean, branded PDF. Your work auto-saves in your browser.
The interactive form above gives you:
Typically an incident commander plus representatives from IT/security, operations, communications, legal, and executive leadership, with named on-call backups for each role. The exact makeup depends on the incident types your organization faces.
An incident response plan focuses on detecting, containing, and managing an active event, while a disaster recovery plan concentrates on restoring systems and data after major disruption. They overlap and often reference each other, but the response plan governs the immediate reaction.
Review it at least annually and after any significant incident, system change, or team reorganization, and run tabletop or simulation exercises regularly to confirm contacts and procedures still work.
