About the Implementation Plan template

An Implementation Plan translates an approved strategy, project charter, or business case into the specific activities, owners, and dates needed to deliver it. It bridges the gap between what was decided and how it actually gets executed, keeping workstreams, dependencies, and go-live milestones visible to everyone. Without one, approved initiatives stall because no one is clear on sequence, responsibility, or readiness criteria.

It's part of My QMS, MyPMP's Quality Management System: fill it in online, personalize it with your name and logo, then export a clean, branded PDF. Your work auto-saves in your browser.

When to use a Implementation Plan

  • Moving from an approved business case or feasibility study into delivery
  • Rolling out a new system, process, or organisational change across teams
  • Coordinating multiple workstreams that share dependencies and a fixed go-live date
  • Handing a project from planning to operational teams and needing a clear cutover path

What a good Implementation Plan includes

  • Objectives and success criteria tied to the original business case
  • Workstreams, tasks, and milestones with start/finish dates
  • Owners and RACI for each activity or deliverable
  • Dependencies, sequencing, and critical-path items
  • Resource, budget, and tooling requirements per phase
  • Risks, assumptions, and rollback or contingency arrangements

Tips & common mistakes

  • 💡Sequence tasks around dependencies and readiness gates, not just calendar dates, so slippage in one workstream surfaces early
  • 💡Assign a single accountable owner per task; shared ownership is the most common reason actions drift
  • 💡Define measurable go/no-go criteria for each phase rather than a vague 'go-live' date

How it works

  1. 1. Fill it in — type directly into the fields, tables and sections above.
  2. 2. Brand it — add your organization name and logo with the Branding button.
  3. 3. Export — print to PDF, or become a member to white-label and sync across devices.

FAQ

How is an implementation plan different from a project plan?

A project plan covers the full lifecycle from initiation to closure, while an implementation plan focuses specifically on executing an approved solution—the tasks, owners, and milestones needed to deploy and embed it.

What should the first phase of an implementation plan cover?

Typically mobilisation: confirming scope and success criteria, securing resources and owners, setting up governance, and validating any prerequisites before build or rollout activity begins.

How detailed should implementation tasks be?

Detailed enough that each task has a clear owner, deliverable, and duration—usually broken down to activities of a few days to two weeks so progress and blockers are easy to track.
