About the Project Request template
A Project Request is the formal ask that starts a project, capturing what a requester needs, why it matters, and the expected benefit before any commitment of budget or resources. It gives a sponsor or PMO the information to triage, prioritize, and decide whether an idea should advance to a business case or charter. Done well, it prevents ad-hoc work and creates a single intake point for all proposed initiatives.
It's part of My QMS, MyPMP's Quality Management System: fill it in online, personalize it with your name and logo, then export a clean, branded PDF. Your work auto-saves in your browser.

Tips & common mistakes
- π‘Keep it to one page β a request is a screening tool, not a full business case
- π‘State the problem, not a pre-chosen solution, so options stay open during evaluation
- π‘Add a clear decision field (approve / reject / hold) so requests don't stall in limbo
How it works
- 1. Fill it in β type directly into the fields, tables and sections above.
- 2. Brand it β add your organization name and logo with the Branding button.
- 3. Export β print to PDF, or become a member to white-label and sync across devices.
FAQ
What is the difference between a Project Request and a project charter?οΌ
A Project Request is the initial intake asking for work to be considered, while a charter is created after approval to formally authorize the project and appoint the manager. The request feeds the decision; the charter starts execution.
Who submits a Project Request?οΌ
Any stakeholder with a need β a business unit lead, customer, or team member β usually submits it to a sponsor or PMO intake process for review and prioritization.
How detailed should a Project Request be?οΌ
Just enough to make a go/no-go screening decision: the problem, expected benefit, rough size, and urgency. Detailed scope, schedule, and financials belong in the later business case or charter.
